The Department of Energy and Climate Change has awarded 132 local energy schemes a share of £46 million to reduce fuel poverty, help energy efficiency and collective switching.
A share of £31 million was offered to a total of 61 projects to install insulation and efficient central heating systems for vunerable residents. There were more than 136 applications asking for £60 million of suppport.
Another competition offered a further £10 million to tie in with the start of the Green Deal, and the money has been awarded to 40 schemes which will be used specifically for the Green Deal assessments.74 bids were received under the scheme, asking for a total of £19.5 million.
A fund aimed at encouraging residents to set up collective purchasing schemes had 144 bids requesting £14.8 million. 31 successful projects were awarded money by DECC.
