Co-op Energy gained 70,000 new customers last year according to their end of year results.
A 21% increase was reported at Midcounties Co-operative, which includes energy, food, funeral, pharmacy, travel and childcare businesses. This increases it’s operating profit to £22 million.
Co-operative Energy is now the fastest growing trading group, serving more than 20,000 households with a 243% increase in sales to £159 million in 2013.
Ben Reid, chief executive of the Midcounties Co-operative, said: “These excellent trading results demonstrate that the Co-operative business model really works.”
He added: “We are now an independent society with a turnover of over £1 billion. Co-operation is clearly working for Midcounties and gives us confidence that we have a sustainable future.”
