Nearly three-quarters of British consumers want smart meters installed in their homes according to a uSwitch survey. which also revealed that consumers with smart meters installed are more happy with their energy suppliers compared to homes with traditional meters.
Almost 60% said they would uses on to try and reduce their energy usage with 42% hoping for more accuracy on their billing.
However 25% of the 4,400 people surveyed still don’t know what a smart meter is or does.
Baroness Verma, Parliamentary under Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change welcomed the “positive results”.
She added: “Smart meters will help put consumers in control of their energy use, bring an end to estimated bills and help people to save energy and money. We want all consumers to benefit which is why, as the rollout progresses, Smart Energy GB will be engaging consumers to build consumer confidence and understanding about smart meters.”
