The Energy and Climate Change Committee (ECCC) have asked the major companies to meet before parliament on the 29th October, along with some smaller energy companies.

Sir Robert Smith MP, acting chairman of the committee, said: “The committee has today decided to call in the energy bosses in the context of the latest wave of price increases.”

The MPs will “explore a range of issues”, including the reasons and justification behind recent energy price rises; the difference of pricing policies between energy suppliers; and how the transparency of energy company profits can be improved.

British Gas, SSE, Npower and Co-operative Energy have all announced price hikes ahead of the onset of Winter.
