British Gas boss Phill Bentley could leave with a £13 million package, made up of salary, bonus, pension and shares according to the Daily Mail, despite customer bills almost doubling during Bentley’s time as Managing Director of the UK retail arm of British Gas.
His leaving package could include a year’s salary of £635,000, a bonus of £399,000 deferred from 2011 and a pension pot worth £3.6 million. Estimates of the value of his shares in the company ranged from £6.7 million to £8.3 million.
After the news that Bentley could quit in February or March, Centrica’s shares dropped by 2.08 % to 333.9p. He is believed to have fallen out with the chief executive of Centrica, Sam Laidlaw over the direction of the companies strategies.
