Household energy customers could receive thousands of pounds cashback in return for installing energy efficiency measures in their homes.
From next month, the Government will be offering up to £7,600 through a new Green Deal Home Improvement Fund for measures including solid wall insulation, double glazing and efficient boilers.
Domestic energy customers could get up to £1,000 if they install two measures from an approved list, up to £6,000 for solid wall insulation and up to £100 refunded for their Green Deal Assessment.
If customers have bought a property in the last 12 months they can apply for an additional £500 if they carry out energy saving improvements.
The Government energy efficiency initiative launched in January last year had a very slow uptake, hence the incentive scheme.
Energy Secretary Ed Davey said: “The best way for households to take control of their energy bills is to use less energy. Faulty boilers, draughty windows and insufficient insulation all cause properties to leak hundreds of pounds every year.
“By installing energy saving improvements, families across the country can enjoy the benefits of warmer, more energy efficient homes and lower bills.”
