Consumer Focus Scotland said that energy efficiency schemes need to be much clearer on who is eligible and who’s not.
The consumer body accepts that awareness of these schemes are high but comparatively few consumers have accessed help from the schemes.
The report entitled “How to make energy efficiency schemes more appealing to consumers” Consumer Focus Scotland said it was critical that the schemes are promoted and delivered in ways that encourage home owners to become more energy efficient.
The reported barriers faced are questions over eligibility, worries about the delivery process, a lack of clarity over communication and concerns over long-term issues.
Consumer Focus Scotland recommends that clearer promotional materials, coupled with better and appropriate training for staff will help provide clarity over who is eligible for the schemes, as well as informing consumers about the installation process and the post-installation services.
