The Finnish energy company Fortum is testing it’s wave power technology in Cornwall.
They announced a deal earlier today with UK based company Wave Hub who have their testing sites 16km off the Cornish coast in the Atlantic ocean.
The company chose the Cornish coast, as it has “favourable wave conditions”.
Fortum’s Chief Technology Officer Heli Antila said: “One wave power solution that we are currently evaluating to be deployed at the site is the ‘Penguin’, developed by Finnish wave power company Wello.”
She added: “This technique comprises vessels that float on the water and capture kinetic energy, which is then turned into electrical power, with minimal anchoring attached to the bottom.”
