A new firm called London Local Energy has applied to the Department of Energy & Climate Change for a licence to look for shale gas in London.
Fracking supporter Nick Grealy founded the company only a month ago. He also runs No Hot Air.
One area it could hydraulically fracture or “frack” for shale gas is the Park Royal Industrial Estate near Willesden, reported the BBC.
Nick Grealy told the Harrow Times “What is important to us is the fact this it local energy for London.
“You are not able to power a tower block with just solar panels. London having its own natural gas supply would help meet the city’s energy needs.
“One of the fears people have is the industrialisation of the landscape but in a built up city like London people will not really notice we are drilling.”
The company has a ‘virtual office’ near Angel in North London which they say offers businesses from around the world the “full benefit of a central London address”.
