A new 40MW solar farm has been approved in the surroundings of Hive Energy HQ which will allow the latest solar and storage technologies to be tested.

The project will be built on land at Woodington Farm near Romsey, and is expected to supply energy to around 9,100 homes – subject to conditions being met, including the restoration of the site to its original state by the end of the 25 year term agreed.

Work is expected to start on the project in 2018, covering an area of 72 hectares (178 acres).

A spokesperson from Hive said  “A biodiversity management plan will be put in place for the 25 year life-span of the solar park,” it added.

“This will see the development of conservation areas within the site alongside sheep grazing, wildflower seeding and the planting of new trees and hedgerows to encourage birds, bats and insects.”
