The US Trade and Development Industry (USTDA) have awarded a grant of $450,000 to Power Grid Corporation of India for a smart grid project to control electric power on the grid in real time, accommodate renewable energy generation and reduce transmission losses.

Utility infrastructure consultant Quanta Technology will carry out the technical assistance, along with LLC and situational intelligence solution provider Space-Time Insight.

The grant was announced at part of the third US – India Strategic Dialogue in Washington D.C last week.

A second grant of $585,375 was awarded to Power Grid to assist in assessing the implementation of high temperature superconductor cable systems within India’s power transmission grid. American Superconductor will serve as the contractor for this study.
