The Queen’s Speech today gave fracking firms the green light to drill underneath people’s homes without having to seek the owners permission.
The Infrastructure Bill could change laws on trespassing, which would allow shale gas companies to frack on private land without having to notify the owner.
Land and homeowners currently have to give permission for shale gas and oil drilling to take place but the government intends to stop the process in order to speed up fracking. The new legislation would be dependent on the outcome of the consultation.
The speech included other energy announcements including new homes to be built in a zero carbon standard from 2016, which is expected to reduce energy bills and carbon emissions. The Government would set a minimum energy performance standard through the building regulations.
