In the Queen’s speech today, it was confirmed that there will be competition introduced to the water and sewerage markets in this parliament.
The speech said that the government will move forward to improve the water industry.
The draft Water Bill will remain on the coalition government’s agenda, and this shows that it has moved a step forward.
The government’s agenda also includes the updating of the UK’s energy infrastructure, with the Energy Bill set to continue its passage through the House of Commons as it enters the report stage.
The bill cannot complete its passage through parliament soon enough for those in the energy industry.
The director-general of lobby group CBI said “The Energy Bill’s journey has dragged on long enough – it is crucial for investors that it’s put on the statute books as soon as possible.”
The Queen also said that the government would continue to use it’s presidency in the G8 to carry on with the progress made in climate change.
