Siemens have been named as the ideal supplier to deliver turbines for an offshore windfarm in the UK.
This will be the second phase of DONG Energy’s 330MW Walney Extension Offshore Wind Farm.
Siemens will install its 7MW turbines at the wind farm, located around 19 kilometres off the Cumbrian coast.
Energy Secretary Ed Davey said: “This is great news for Britain, showing how our policies have made the UK the best place in the world to invest in offshore wind. It is particularly good news for Hull where many of the blades for UK projects will be manufactured and where Siemens are already creating over a thousand new green jobs.”
The project was granted consent last year, and have been awarded a Contract for Difference.
The first phase of the extension project was won by a joint venture MHI Vestas Offshore Wind between Danish wind turbine maker Vestas and Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
