The Prime Minister has expressed the government’s support for plans for fracking wells to be developed across the entire UK. He denied reports that the government want the fracking to be confined only to certain areas of the country.
Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Cameron said “I want all parts of our nation to share in the benefits: north or south, Conservative or Labour.”
He said there is real potential in shale gas to reduce gas and electricity prices, as the bills will go down when domestic energy supply increases.
Once the benefits are explained, and reassurance regarding the environmental effects are given, Cameron said that the public will be forthcoming to in favour of shale gas.
Cameron declared that “we can not afford to miss out on fracking” as the benefits include potentially lower energy bills and in addition community payments of £100,000 per exploratory well, plus if the gas is extracted 1% of the revenue will be paid to local communities.
